Stone Town
A Stone Town Tour is a wonderful introduction to Zanzibar that gives you the measure of the rich cultural heritage of the island. The walk offers an overview of the history of the stone city. Ancient houses of magnificent architecture, narrow streets of sand and stone (some are more than 200 years old), and carved wooden Arab/Indian doors. We start this tour at the city's main market, which was opened in 1904, where tropical fruits, vegetables, spices and fresh fish from the island are sold. Our next stop will be at the Anglican Church of Christ built by Bishop Steers in 1873 on the site where slaves were auctioned. Other important points of our visit to the historic city are: a visit to House of Wonders - this palace was built in 1883 by the island's Sultan, Forodhani Gardens where you can watch the sun set while enjoying locally made dishes: Zanzibar pizzas and seafood on the barbecue. + Visit to Old Fort - Built by the Portuguese.
Spice Tour
The history of Zanzibar would be incomplete without the cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon, pepper, vanilla and many other spices. The island was once the world's leading producer of cloves and the clove industry was the foundation of the golden age of Zanzibar.
